It started as a completely ordinary evening drive. No destination in mind, no agenda, just rolling down a random road with the usual background noise of life.
Then came the shout from the passenger seat:
“Dad, dad, stop the car, look at the sky!!”
I pulled over, looked out the window, and there it was—an unbelievable, orange-pink canvas stretching across the horizon. It was one of the most breathtaking sunsets I’d seen in a long time, but what made it unforgettable wasn’t just the colors. It was the fact that I almost drove right past it.

As adults, our eyes are usually glued to the road ahead, focused on the routine, the traffic, or the next place we need to be. Kids don’t drive like that. They look out the side windows. They notice the world in real time, completely unbothered by schedules or destinations.
If my daughter hadn’t yelled, that sunset would have faded into twilight without me ever turning my head.
It was a simple reminder to hit the brakes—literally and figuratively. The most magical moments rarely show up on our daily to-do lists; they happen in the side-mirror view of an ordinary evening.
Next time someone tells you to stop the car and look, pull over. The road can wait, but the sky won’t.
